Meet the New Avenger and Super Avenger Watches from Breitling

Breitling expands the Avenger collection’s offerings with new 46, 42 and 44mm models.

You can think of Breitling Avenger watches as the ultimate military tool but fused with distinctive Breitling DNA. In many ways, they are perfect field watches, but they also combine the features of a pilot’s watch with a dive watch. This combination makes the Avenger quite a unique category of watches to shop for and collect. If you’re looking to extend your collection this Autumn, you may like to feast your eyes on the latest releases to have come of the popular collection. They comprise two versions of the broad 46mm type, three from the 42mm size and a 44mm Night Mission watch. Before we look at these models in more detail, let’s take a quick look at the Avenger collection itself and who likes to wear these distinctive timepieces.

The Breitling Avenger Watch Collection

Whether you need flawless stopwatch features in a tool watch or just want to track an additional time zone while you’re travelling abroad for work commitments, the Avenger watch collection has you covered. The designs bridge the gap between the ocean and the floor, offering exceptional functionality, water resistance and durability. Top models from the collection boast features like GMTs and chronographs, not to mention staggering water-resistant capabilities of 3000 meters. These latter models even come equipped with helium escape valves to prevent the build-up of helium gas inside the case and the damage it may cause.

Watches from this line are certainly built for those with larger wrists. They are bold, powerful and incredibly masculine-looking. They have a somewhat athletic profile that looks aggressive and ready for action no matter where and how they are worn. Breitling uses a plethora of innovative materials including carbon, titanium, ceramic, steel and sapphire glass to offer a premium finish in these models. Suffice it to say, the Avenger is a tool for every eventuality and every situation. The hour markers and hands on each dial are generously coated with plenty of luminous material, while the straps, offered in a mix of different materials, are designed and intended to stand the test of time. One of the most instantly recognisable features of the Avenger watch collection by Breitling is its four rider tabs that take up residence on the cardinal points of the bezel. Those who consider themselves true fans of the Colt and the Chronomat will be more than familiar with this feature. They provide an easy grip across the surface of the bezel and have become a key feature of the line. Above all, Avenger watches are respected for their COSC-certified movements, their rugged and imposing cases, and their superb functionality.

So, now you know what makes a Breitling Avenger watch so special, let’s take a look at the new Avenger, Super Avenger and Night Mission watches recently launched from Breitling’s La Chaix-de-Fonds facilities.

The New Breitling Super Avenger B01 Chronograph 46

The clues are in the name of this new Breitling watch for 2024. This is a beefy 46mm design from the Avenger series (the larger models are named Super Avenger), and it’s a chronograph complication that is powered by the brand’s in-house B01 Manufacture movement. Just as accurate as some of the most world-renowned movements in history, if not more, the engine is a self-winding type that produces an impressive power reserve of 70 hours once fully wound. The movement also performs at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers central hours and minutes, small seconds, a 30-minute chronograph timer and a 12-hour totaliser, along with a date mechanism.

The rich blue version is rather unusual. It combines beautifully with the black-filled chronograph counters, while the black dial version looks resolutely classic and will pair well with all attire. The watches are offered on stainless steel bracelets or leather bands to comply with the rest of the new releases.

The New Breitling Avenger B01 Chronograph 42

I’ll start with the most classic-looking of all three new releases from the Breitling Avenger B01 Chronograph 42. The black dial variation is a versatile design that is sure to appeal to the masses, whether Breitling fans or general aviation watch collectors in general. It features a stainless steel case, unlike the 46mm models, which are, in fact, crafted from lightweight titanium. These steel models are powered by the Calibre B01 once more and come on a choice of a colour-matching leather band or a three-row stainless steel bracelet.

It goes without saying that those fitted on one of Breitling’s steel cases are sure to look great with formal or work attire. Even so, they also look rather sporty. The other dial options include a deep blue and rich green colour – each one with black-filled chronograph sub-counters. All of these dials are protected underneath a piece of anti-reflective and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass, which attaches to a 300-meter water-resistant case. The brushed lugs create a military-inspired aesthetic, while the push-pieces look rather contemporary, hugging the curves of the 42mm case.

The New Breitling Avenger Automatic GMT 44 Night Mission

Designed to take on the tough conditions of the cockpit, this Night Mission watch looks perfect for the wrists of aviators. Its sleek and stealthy-looking black case has been crafted from ceramic, while the sapphire glass top and black leather band bring the entire design together nicely. This watch pairs performance with resilience and functionality, continuing a great companion for wearing throughout the week, day or night. The Arabic numeral hour markers around the dial are filled with a grey-coloured Super-LumiNova material, which subtly nods to aviation and field watches of the past. Then there are the strikingly legible hands, coated with white luminous material and tapering only at the very tip to create a sword-like end. A 24-hour track features around the edge of a military-inspired dial pattern, while the date aperture has been dressed against a white background for optimal legibility. This watch is finished on a black leather band and is powered by the Calibre 32, which looks after the second and third timezones, not to mention a 42-hour power reserve.
