One watch with multiple possibilities, the Tissot Alpine On Board Limited Edition watch pays tribute to Alpine’s powerful A110 S sports car with a distinctive chronograph that draws a balance between old and modern, bringing to life a retro aesthetic with modern materials and colours.
We talk about the irrefutable connection between luxury watchmaking and car manufacture all the time here at Horologii. Right from the start, the mechanical and engineering aspects of them are intertwined, and folk are just as obsessed with the intricacy of a watch mechanical movement as they are with a well-engineered car engine. Sports cars in particular have had a long association with watches with both industries sharing passions for speed, performance and precision. Swiss watch manufacturer Tissot and French car manufacturer Alpine are no different, two well-established brands that go hand in hand with each other.
History of Tissot and Alpine
Tissot first began their relationship with Alpine in 1973 when they took part in the Monte Carlo rally and sponsored the Alpine racing team. Destined for success, Alpine took all three podium positions and five of the top six places of the rally, dominating the competition and eventually going on to win the World Rally Championship. Their success was largely down to the “Berlinette”, the A110 car with a superb racing pedigree.
Shortly after, Tissot sponsored Team Renault Alpine both in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and in the Formula 1. In 1980, Tissot and Alpine again celebrated huge success when Renault’s Alpine won first place and the fastest lap with a Renault RE20 car decorated with Tissot’s lettering on the front. In the late 90’s, the Alpine name had lost some of its influence; that was however until 2017 with the release of the new A110 car, a revival of the original “Berlinette”. Remaining loyal, Tissot have celebrated Alpine’s rebirth over the past few years with several special edition Tissot watches including the Tissot Alpine V8 and the Tissot Heritage Visodate Alpine Dieppe 50th Anniversary watch.
In 2019, Alpine introduced a more powerful edition of the A110 car, this time nicknamed the A110 S. It’s matte grey finish and sporty orange accents is the very inspiration for today’s Tissot watch. The new Tissot Alpine On Board Limited Edition once again celebrates the two manufacturer’s long, well-established history with a sporty aesthetic destined only for the wrists of petrol heads.
The Tissot Alpine On Board Limited Edition Watch
When we said the Tissot Alpine On Board watch delivered multiple possibilities, we weren’t joking. Its unique concept is something we have never seen before in this price range. Not only can it be strapped around the wrist, but the central module of the case can be removed from the strap and case back to transform it into two other timekeeping instruments. It’s first evolution combines with your Alpine’s dashboard and fitted to the infotainment system on a dedicated stand and used as a dashboard timer. Alternatively, the Tissot Alpine On Board Limited Edition arrives with a table stand in its presentation box so you can use the module as a desk clock.
For the moments its on your wrist, the Tissot Alpine On Board watch delivers a handsome and sporty finish achieved through a polished and brushed stainless steel case and an unadorned fixed bezel measuring to 45mm in diameter. A textured racing-inspired pattern adorns the flanks while two orange accented chronograph pushers and a screw down crown assist in a 100 metre water resistant rating.
The same shade of orange arrives on the black perforated leather strap through the bold stitching and on the dial’s markers, hands, date frame and internal tachymeter scale. Like the orange accents, the grey-coloured dial of the Tissot Alpine On Board Limited Edition celebrates the car’s livery with a stunning grained textured finish and a central chronograph seconds hand shaped into Alpine’s logo. Two subsidiary counters for small seconds and 30 minutes are dressed in black and protected beneath bevelled scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass treated with an anti-reflective coating.
The Tissot Alpine On Board watch is powered by the Valjoux A05.H31 calibre which is based on the classic Valjoux 7750. Alongside 27 jewels, a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and a power reserve of 60 hours, the mechanical movement comes equipped with a grey-coated oscillating weight with circular graining.
Limited to only 516 pieces and retailing at £1,895, the Tissot Alpine On Board Chronograph is available to order now on the Jura Watches website. Get in touch with the team today for more information on the new release on 01335 453453 or at help@jurawatches.co.uk.
