The El Primero, first created in 1969 by Zenith watches, was the first integrated automatic chronograph movement capable of measuring short periods of time with one tenth of a second accuracy; and the watch still holds that title.
So to mark the 40th anniversary of El Primero’s excellence, Zenith has produced two new series: the Originals and the New Vintage 69. Illustrated here is the New Vintage 1969 Original Titane, a limited and numbered edition that is only available during 2009.
As the name implies, this watch comes with a titanium case with a black alligator strap that has a rubber finishing and a titanium buckle. The crystal to the front is a box form sapphire glass, and to the back there is also a sapphire glass and the anniversary logo. Both front and back have an anti-reflective treatment.
The dial is transparent onto which rhodium indexes have been hand mounted. Black and red hands are finished with white or green superluminova, as are the indexes.
Zenith’s Thierry Nataf said, “We want to celebrate the present unpretentiously, but, with a great deal of relevance and talent, I hope, in honour of a model that is now a true legend“.
