Oris Watches & Wonders 2023 Releases

For Watches & Wonders 2023, Oris has offered up two distinctively different designs. The first is the serious Oris ProPilot Altimeter watch, a robust tool watch with a lightweight carbon fibre case and an altimeter and air pressure indicator. The second is the brightly-coloured Oris ProPilot X Kermit watch, a playful special edition created in partnership with Disney’s The Muppets. Its subtly textured lime green dial features a joyful date window at 6 o’clock which on the first day of every month reveals Kermit’s smiling face. Let’s take a look at these two Oris Watches & Wonders 2023 releases in more detail…

The Oris ProPilot Altimeter Watch

Oris became the world’s first luxury watch brand to create a wristwatch with an automatic winding movement and a mechanical altimeter back in 2014 and now almost a decade later, the design returns for Oris’ Watches & Wonders 2023 showcase. The new Oris ProPilot Altimeter watch isn’t just a rebirth of the original but comes with several useful improvements to make exploring our world’s peaks and skies all the easier. For starters, it has an improved altimeter module which now indicates altitude up to 19,700 feet or 6,000 metres. Previously these were topped at 15,000 feet and 4,500 metres. The mechanical altimeter movement is also housed within a lightweight carbon fibre case created in partnership with 9T Labs.

Using the Oris ProPilot Altimeter watch can feel a little daunting at first, but after you’ve tested it just once, it feels like second nature. You can read more about how this innovative design works in our in-depth review of the Oris ProPilot Altimeter watch here. But in short, the altitude scale is presented in either feet or metres on a smooth black display shown by the yellow indicator on the outer dial ring. Alongside this, you’ll also get classic Superluminova coated hands for the hours and minutes and a date window at 3 o’clock. The case measures to 47mm wide and 17mm thick, a little thinner than the original, but its hefty size feels weightless on the wrist thanks to its carbon fibre construction. The Oris ProPilot Altimeter watch also boasts a 100 metre water resistant rating and is powered by the Oris 793 automatic winding movement with a 56 hour power reserve.

The Oris ProPilot X Kermit Edition Watch

A truly unexpected Oris Watches & Wonders 2023 release is the Oris ProPilot X Kermit Edition watch. For the first time, the Swiss watchmaker partners with Disney’s The Muppets to celebrate a character of absolute joy: Kermit the Frog. The traditional ProPilot X architecture, renowned for its taunt, angular lines and urban-inspired knurled bezel, is joined by a bright green dial designed to mimic the colour of Kermit the Frog’s skin. The date window at 6 o’clock is also uniquely decorated with Kermit’s face, showing only on the first day of the month, a day Oris has labelled “Kermit Day”.

The rest of the Oris ProPilot X Kermit watch follows suit to the ProPilot X watches launched last year. The slender titanium case measures to 39mm in diameter and is topped by the distinctive textured bezel, a screw down crown with crown guards and domed sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment. The case back is also screwed down for a 100 metre water resistant rating and provides a view of the Calibre 400 automatic winding movement within. This is one of Oris’ latest in-house movements, impressing with a 5 day or 120 hour power reserve, high levels of anti-magnetism, a frequency of 28,800vph and a total of 21 jewels. The Kermit-inspired Oris Watches & Wonders 2023 release is completed by a three-row link titanium bracelet. We’ve already reviewed this watch in more detail here if you’re interested.
