This year’s Baselworld event saw Eterna release a new addition to their GMT variety with the in-house calibre 3914A – the Adventic GMT. The new timepiece has a striking new contemporary aesthetic and clear cut baton hour markers.
The latest version of the Adventic GMT arrives with seconds hands located in the seconds time zone and a small seconds scale both injected with an intense neon orange for optimal legibility. The 42mm stainless steel piece boasts a beautiful anthracite dial and a clean-cut second time zone at the 6 o’clock location featuring a 24 hour scale. The company incorporate their new 39 calibre – the latest development fresh out of the Grenchen workshops themselves. The simplest and most basic movement is hand-wound with a striking hours and minutes hand. The design and modular structure to the calibre is uniquely versatile, allowing additional sub-assemblies and components to be added and taken away at any time. The calibre can be modified to create at least 88 different movements, thanks to its huge potential and also boasts chronometer level precision with a reliable 68 hours power reserve. The spherodrive – a ball baring-mounted rotor system that is also low-friction for a higher quality gear training mechanism, is one desirable addition alone. The concept of this feature was created to aid the efficiency of the delivery system and energy storage centre which lies at the heart of every mechanical movement – the barrel, which controls the slow unwinding and winding of the mainspring. The ball bearings are fitted with extremely tiny self –lubricating zirconium-oxide spheres which optimize the smooth running internals of the watch parts. The various components involved in the movement can rotate at a quicker rate thus drastically improving the overall performance of the timepiece. The innovation has allowed Eterna watches to operate by sustaining their power reserves and mitigate the immense pressures of the intricate workings within the movement by reducing friction and wear over time.
The new Adventic GMT has a pronounced individuality compared to its predecessors. The incorporation of the independently sourced in-house movement illustrates Eterna’s technological capabilities and the direction in which these advances are taking the brand. The vibrant release of colour marries well with the warm brown ostrich skin strap which finishes the timepiece perfectly. The dial has been reduced to a clean and relieved layout with a minimalistic approach to the sub-dials and hour markers resulting in a sleek yet elegant presence. The watch face is far from symmetrical however manages to easily achieve good balance with well proportioned features and discreet circular decoration of the sub-dial. The simple design produced for the white Super LumiNova coated hour and minute hands effectively enhances the elongated indices, also equipped with luminous highlights. The Adventic GMT also owns a set of slimmed lugs which blend into the soft and unblemished contours of the bezel, finished with a polished and satinized embellishment.
The new Eterna Adventic GMT model fuses a sophisticated and contemporary visual appeal with strong acknowledgments to the brand’s modern technological advances, combined with a unique adaptability for everyday activities and an “all-occasions” versatility.
