Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Skeleton 6-15 Watch Review

With a portfolio of bold and colourful dive watches already under their belt, it is no surprise that Swiss watchmaker Zodiac have chosen to debut their new STP 6-15 skeletonized automatic winding movement with an equally memorable design. The new Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Skeleton 6-15 watch boasts Zodiac’s first skeletonised dial and a new rainbow ombre bezel Zodiac are calling their Super Chroma K1 crystal bezel.

Since its creation in 1953, the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf watch has remained the Swiss watch brand’s flagship design. At the beginning, it made history as one of the first commercial dive watches on the market, impressing professional and amateur divers alike with its luminous dials, rotating bezels and 200m water resistant cases, all made available at an affordable price. Over the years, these entry-levels diver’s watches have evolved to include new materials and mechanics, whether it be the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Pro Titanium with its ISO-certified, 300 metre water resistant titanium case or the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf GMT which adds a second time zone complication to the dial. Now for their latest launch, Zodiac introduces a new in-house calibre and a unique rainbow gradient bezel in the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Skeleton 6-15 watch.

Colour has always been a pillar of the Zodiac design,” notes Zodiac creative director, Ryan White. “The Super Chroma bezel was our most daring use of colour to date and a nod to our rebellious roots.”

For the main part of the case, the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Skeleton 6-15 watch copies its predecessors with a robust stainless steel architecture with a 40mm diameter and brushed and polished finishing. There’s also the same screw in crown at 3 o’clock with the Zodiac logo in relief, a 200 metre water resistant rating and the brand’s 5-link Jubilee stainless steel bracelet. New to the case is the bezel, still unidirectional but topped by a Super Chroma K1 crystal insert with a dramatic and colourful rainbow gradient effect. This is the first time Zodiac has ever used their “Super Chroma” bezel and while it will certainly be a “marmite” topic in the luxury watch community, we have to admit we love it!

The colourful theme of the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Skeleton 6-15 watch continues onto its new skeletonised dial which reveals the Swiss watchmaker’s new STP 6-15 movement. The movement has mostly dark-coloured bridges but these set a background to other lighter silver and gold elements and the brightly coloured yellow minutes hand which matches with the triangle on the bezel. The hour and seconds hand are just as legible, set with glow in the dark Superluminova, extending out towards a bold monochromatic flange ring on the dial’s outskirts. The round and baton indexes are printed onto the sapphire crystal glass above for added dimensionality.

The Swiss made STP 6-15 skeleton automatic winding movement can also be viewed through the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Skeleton 6-15 watch’s case back surrounded by its own rainbow ombre border. The movement has a Côte de Genève striped, blue-coloured oscillating rotor to ensure a two-day power reserve. We’re also promised 23 jewels and a frequency of 28,800vph.
